Why do we use different materials for one injection mold?

Many people think that using different materials for injection molds is the mold factory cutting corners to save money, but this is not the case. The use of multi-material matching in molds is a scientific design that considers the service life, production stability, product precision and maintenance cost of the mold, based on the working conditions of each structure.

The core logic is that different structures of the mold have great differences in working environment and performance requirements: core parts such as mold cores contact high-temperature and high-pressure plastic melt, so high-quality mold steels such as 718H and S136 are selected; supporting structures such as mold bases use cost-effective structural steels such as 45# steel; moving parts such as ejector pins and guide pillars use wear-resistant materials such as SKD61; ordinary carbon steel or stainless steel is sufficient for auxiliary small parts.

This matching method can not only reasonably control the cost and avoid waste, but also avoid the defects of a single material, extend the mold life, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and adapt to different product processes to meet the needs of high-precision production.
